Q – “REDACTED county council told me i no longer met the eligibilty criteria for the help i was getting. What does this mean?” (from ‘CG’)
A – ‘eligibility’ relates to the difference between the needs an assessment has identified which a person can have help with – that is, eligible needs – and those they cannot have help with – that is, ineligible needs.
Eligibility can be broadly understood as relating to needs that a person has because of a physical or mental condition that prevents them from being able to manage things in their life in two or more areas (called outcomes) in such a way as to have a significant impact on their wellbeing.
if needs improve a person may no longer meet the eligibility threshhold. equally eligibility may be ‘lost’ if needs are ‘reinterpreted’ to be seen as less severe, for example in a needs review.
